Formerly known as Abitibi Band of Abitibi Indians, Wahgoshig First Nation is an Algonquin community, the Wahgoshig people were known centuries ago as a nomadic group of hunter-gatherers, whose territory straddled a large segment of what is now Northeastern Ontario and Northwest Quebec. Our First Nation membership consists of Algonquin and Cree decent mainly.
